Behavior-Change nutrition intervention through FPH fortification for stunting prevention program

Donor Protein Kutai Kartanegara is a collaborative nutrition intervention program implemented in partnership with the Kutai Kartanegara local government. Through this program, the local government procures hydrolyzed fish protein (HPI) products to be distributed as part of a fortified nutrition strategy for stunting prevention. The initiative integrates behavior-change communication, public sector procurement, and sustainable utilization of fishery byproducts.

Problem Statement

Kutai Kartanegara continues to face stunting challenges driven by limited access to high-quality protein for vulnerable communities.

  • Limited availability of affordable, easily absorbed protein sources within government-led nutrition interventions.

Solution We Offer

Through a strategic partnership with the Kutai Kartanegara local government, this program delivers hydrolyzed fish protein (HPI) via public procurement to support fortified nutrition interventions while transforming fishery byproducts into sustainable, high-impact nutrition solutions.

Output Program

  • 3,300 household reached through targeted high-protein nutrition support.
  • 16,500 kg of fish byproduct diverted from disposal and processed into high-value hydrolysate.
  • Estimated 21,450 kg CO₂e emissions avoided through waste-to-nutrition utilization from this program.

Development of local HPI production capacity utilizing the abundant supply of Nile tilapia, enabling Kutai Kartanegara to sustainably produce hydrolyzed fish protein for long-term nutrition programs.
